'POSITIVE PEOPLE, POSITIVE RESULTS IN 2010" - Shirl P. Taylor, Director

In 2010 the COA is focusing on continuing to provide quality services in these challenging times. With faith in GOD, preserverance, and determination, we will remain dedicated to improving the "quality of life" for the residents of Hardin County. It is a privilege to work along side a dedicated governing Board of Directors, faithful Advisory Council, a wonderful staff, dedicated community entities, numerous volunteers, and a diverse group of clients, as we provide these services.

The theme for the Council on Aging in 2010 is  " POSITIVE PEOPLE, POSITIVE RESULTS". Our focus is " CUSTOMER SERVICE" at it's best. We hope you will plan to join us in this endeaveor as we strive to encourage others in a "POSITIVE" way. We will offer exciting seminars, special speakers, new events, and supportive services funded through the local levy, grants, contracts, fundraisers, and donations. We will focus on staying positive in negative times.

Below are "10 Ways TO STAY POSITIVE IN 2010:
1.  Manage stress in healthy ways.
2.  Learn to be flexible and take things in stride.
3.  Think of challenges as opportunities to shine.
4.  Look for the best in others and in yourself.
5.  Eat foods that are good for you.
6.  Get plenty of rest so you can face each day with renewed energy.
7.  Surrond yourself with upbeat people.
8.  Focus on the joys in life and remember to laugh.
9.  Write a "To Do" list each morning and prioritize your activities.
10. Take pride in your work and your achievements.

We would like to invite you to join our many exercise routines we provide daily such as Mel's Sit Down Exercises, Tai Chi, Wii Games, Bumper Pool, and others.  Also, make plans to take low-impact aerobics or work-out in the new HCCoA Exercise Center provided to seniors 60 and over at no cost and to those 59 and under for $1.00 a day or $17.00 per month.

The Senior Center is a place seniors of all ages can visit, join in the fun, exercise, take classes, teach classes, and be a volunteer for and/or take part in activities and events that are available. Please come in and see all we have to offer. We are your resource for many needed services, wellness, lifelong learning, access to benefits, and many other meaningful and fun opportunities.

Thank you to all who support our services of Transportation, Adult Day Care, Information & Referral, Homemaker, Chore, Outreach, and Socialization activities provided to those 60 and over in Hardin County. Without the support of the people of Hardin County, these services would not be possible. We will continue to advocate for the rights of seniors in an effort to improve their quality of life.

We need volunteers on a daily basis. A few specific places volunteers are needed is the Exercise Center and an instructor is needed to teach Computer Classes for seniors. If you volunteer in any area of the Senior Center or Senior Day Care we are sure you will leave each day with a rewarding feeling from sharing your talents and time with others. Volunteers who work in the Adult Day Care Center are required to have fingerprinting and background checks before starting to work. These will be paid for by COA.

COME SHARE IN THE FUN AND REAP THE REWARDS!
